Catholic Musings on Issues that Matter.

  • The evening is relaxing once your evening meal is eaten, you’ve had a cup of tea and sit down to enjoy something recreational.

It is a blessed time to contemplate the days activities and enjoy your accomplishments. Maybe even plan for the morrow.

It cannot be underestimated this time to unwind and prepare for sleep. And when sleep comes how sweet it is. Truly, really the sleep of the people of God is sweet.

    Thanks be to God.

  • Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

From a young age I was taught to doubt myself. I was contradicted a lot. If I was cold and put a jumper on my mum would say to take it off, it was too hot. If it was hot and I didn’t need a jumper she would tell me to take one with me. Just a small example of how I was made to distrust my own feelings and judgement.

I was asked what colour I’d like to have my bedroom painted, and when I said cornflower blue my mum painted it cream anyway. So my voice, my desires and wishes and my feelings were ignored.

To this day I second guess myself. I need courage to be true to myself and to trust my instincts. I need boldness to say what I think and feel even if it upsets or disappoints others. I wish I’d learned this earlier. To trust my gut instinct. I would have avoided the pain of an abusive marriage and resulting divorce.

  • The Art of Creation.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the word was God.” John 1:1

This is the Logos or the Greek word for Word. It began the world. Spoken from the mouth of God, and in such a powerful and poetic way that it created all things.

  • Can one person make a difference?
    Immeasurably!

It’s always been one person taking a stand, who has made an impact upon the world. The assassination of public speaker and advocate Charlie Kirk points to the power of one life to impact the world. Charlie had deep convictions. He made every effort to show the Truth to his peers and his fellow Americans. He shared it with anyone who would listen. He was not afraid to confront others in his effort to engage people in controversial topics that matter.

His death, as much as his life has exposed the reality of the evil forces directed against good. Now more than ever it is the responsibility of every individual to speak out. Anyone who believes in truth, freedom, honesty and justice must speak up against the lies of evil which kill goodness.

In Australia there is a cultural malaise which cuts down the tall poppy. If we are to reclaim our identity as the Lucky Country we must act now regardless of the consequences. We need to shake off our passivity and fear. We need to speak out for what we know is right and true in spite of the opposition.

Decide today that you will speak up against evil. Don’t doubt your convictions, or fear the consequences. In the words attributed to John Wesley …

Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.

We only live once. Just like Charlie Kirk, we have to make our lives count for good.
